Here's the list as of 2012-12-31 (10:30 PM, central time). I included every game that had a review score on Metacritic's 2012 PS3 scores page, which ends up being 179 games. Some important things to remember as you check out this list:
- Release date is very important. Games which were just released will have fewer players. For best results, take the dates into account when comparing games. For example, Far Cry 3 has as many players as SSX, even though it's only been out for less than a month. For November 20th, Hitman: Absolution has slightly more than Playstation All Stars, and both have way more than Sonic Racing, Family Guy, and Epic Mickey 2.
- Region is also very important. Games which were released in all regions will have an advantage, and then there's also the fact that PSNprofiles' userbase is mostly English speaking. Also, this list from 2012 is based on US release dates, whereas some games may have come out last year in Japan or elsewhere.
- There may have been some games which have different trophies under a different name for the Japanese version. I didn't include any of those (I know Winning Eleven is one).
- Furthermore, the type of people who use the site (that is, people who care about trophies) impact the popularity of the games. It's a big sample, but it's not even 5% of the total players.
- Also, PSNprofiles recently had some site problems, which may have impacted data over the past two months.
- Don't forget that some games were given away free on PS Plus.
